I have to let you know that I start writing these letters earlier in the month so that I can keep up with all that is going on as it comes our way...otherwise I'll forget, because let's face it - there's something new or amazing every single day!! So when I say that this "might be my favorite month to date," that was before realizing it would also be our longest, most challenging month to date!!
I think this month might be my favorite to date. Your laugh and contagious smile is out of this world and always ensues in laughing fits for your daddy and me. You talk to us constantly, and a whole lot louder when we aren't "close enough" to you. Can we talk about the fact that you FAKE cough?! We aren't really sure how you learned that, but it's been one of our favorite parts of the month! And let's not get started on how precious you are when you eat. That's what this whole month has been about...learning to eat.
We started with rice cereal just 3 days after you turned 4 months, and after the first two days...I thought we had a long road ahead of us and another picky eater/gagger on our hands (just like me), but by the third day, you were READY! You would open your mouth ready for the spoon and you would talk and laugh the whole time. It quickly became my favorite part of the day! And when we got to the oatmeal cereal...you were even MORE excited! (All this eating also meant the first time in your high chair...you LOVED it up there!)
You have officially noticed (and fallen in love with) your PUPPY!! I've seen you watch him from time to time, but over the past month he has started to catch your eye more and more. You get SO excited when he walks by you or comes over to sit with me while I'm on the floor playing with you. I'm not so sure the feeling is mutual yet, but I'm sure you two will be best friends!
This month, you showed mommy and daddy just how tough you are! You had your first "boo-boo," which also meant our first doctor's non-well visit and you handled it all like a champ. You fake coughed and cheesy-grinned your way through most to it, but we definitely hit a few tough days where your smile was hidden for a little while. We were SO excited when your personality (and regular sleep patterns) came back!!
I'm pretty sure in this next month, you just might accomplish sitting up by yourself and rolling over from tummy to back, and you might even have your first tooth come through. You are SOOO close on all of these!
Wearing: We have moved up from 0-3 months clothes in to our 6 months clothes! None of the 3 month pjs fit anymore, but she can still wear most of her 3 months clothes. We also JUST moved up from size 2 diapers to size 3's, 3 days before turning 5 months!
First time wearing our 6 month PJs! |
Eating: Bryleigh is still on her same schedule of 6 ounces every 3 or so ounces, but the last week (with being sick), she hasn't been eating quite as much. We've also added one fun-feeding of rice or oatmeal cereal most days. There's definitely an art behind it, because Bryleigh ends up "pushes" out half or more of what I give her, and then there's the spitting she does with her lips. I always thought it was really cute when she would finish her bottle and pucker her lips, then make a little popping/spitting noise for a little bit. Well, that's not so cute when she does it after EVERY bite she takes and half of the food comes back out.
Sleeping: She is still needing that quick little cat nap in the mornings about an hour after her first bottle. The sleep schedule varies a little after that. Sometimes she'll take a morning nap after her second bottle and then an afternoon nap after the third one, and other times it will just be one long afternoon nap. She's still doing great at nights. We've FINALLY got her going to bed between 8:00 and 8:30, and most nights she is sleeping until 6:00 or longer. Most days, she ends up in our bed after waking up and sleeps in there until about 8:30. She likes her sleep, just like momma!!
There was no doctor's appointment this month (outside of her non-well visit), so these are our at-home measurements: Bryleigh is 18.2 pounds, is 26.5 inches long, and her sweet little head is 45 cm!
Fifth Month Highlights
Bryleigh and mommy kicked off the month with a quick weekend trip to SS for Austin and Kate's wedding. It was Bryleigh's first wedding, and it was definitely a special one!! We got in to town early enough on Friday that we were able to go to Relay for Life with Mimi for a little bit, another first for Bryleigh.
Daddy was SO glad when we got him! He definitely missed his girls, and we missed him!!
Another first for our Bryleigh girl this month was her first Memorial Day! It's one of the favorites around our house because it was the weekend that Brad and I first met! (We started dating less than a month later!!) We started Saturday off with a morning movie date where we (Mommy and Daddy) saw Million Dollar Arm, and Miss Bryleigh spent some time with DeDe, Poppa B, and Aunt Erin! After the movie, we took Bryleigh to her first pool party where we got to spend some time with our friends from church in our young married small group. Sunday was church and Bryleigh's first experience of a No-Hitter! (Sunday, May 25 - LA Dodgers pitcher, Josh Beckett) Bryleigh slept during a little bit of it, and the moment he threw the last strike...our doorbell rang at the exact same time and chaos ensued!! Brad was cheering, Emmitt was barking, and Bryleigh was DEFINITELY crying!! And on Monday...we RELAXED just the three of us! It was perfect!
This month was lots of fun for Bryleigh because she got to play with TWO new toys. She's growing by the day, so we were able to introduce a few new things to her.
We wrapped up the month celebrating Brad's very first Father's Day, and it was such a fun day/weekend! DeDe and Poppa B came over for dinner on Friday night (Poppa B has been mowing the lawn for Brad while he's out of commission), and then Mimi and Pappy came down on Saturday morning/afternoon. It was so good getting to spend some time with our dad's before celebrating a special day on Sunday! On Sunday, we slept in a little bit, (home health came), we had lunch at Daddy's favorite - Pluckers, and then did some shopping! We ended the day with pizza, pop corn, and the NBA finals! Bryleigh gave her daddy some of his favorites - a sports biography book (The Closer - Mariano Rivera) and his favorite movie (Twister)...she knows him so well! :)
The day before she turned 5 months old, we had a pretty exciting day! Miss Bryleigh ended up on the 10 o'clock news (followed by all the morning news coverage on the 17th). It was completely random, which is why mommy has on no make up, and mommy and daddy match, but it was a story about something we believe in, so we agreed to do it! You can check out the video by following this link. You can read about the story behind us being on the news in this blog.
And a VERY special welcome to Bryleigh's two new buddies that officially made their arrivals this month!! Rylan Jacob was born on June 10, 2014 and Logan Joseph came on June 12, 2014! We are so excited for lots of play dates with these two and their mommies!
