Independent(s) Days of July

Dear Miss Independent,

It has been SUCH a joy to watch as your personality continues to blossom.  You want more and more independence with each passing day (so please just be easy on this momma's heart...I would love to keep you little forever).  There isn't much that you don't try to do on your own, from getting dressed, to brushing your teeth, to walking into the house (even up the step!).

One of our very favorite things about you is your love for music.  Your daddy and I love to listen to music, and you certainly are no different.  You love to sing and dance, and you are always playing with your noise-making toys.  (Your current favorite songs to dance to are "Get" Up and Dance with Me and Honey I'm Good.)

Daddy said his favorite/funniest things you do are your heavy breathing with your teeth all out (you have quite the flair for the dramatic) and when you squelch your face all up.  We also love it when you help us make our bed, picking up the pillows...even the ones that are bigger than you!!

Mommy loves your latest "thing" where you sit down on the floor with one of your books and then pat the ground next to you for me to come sit down and read with you.  My favorite is when I sit down next to you and then you crawl up in my lap while we read the books together.  I love that you love your books.

It is so fun to teach you new things and watch how quickly you pick up on things these days.  Every day you do something new that amazes us.  We are so proud of the little lady you are becoming and we can't wait to see what the months ahead bring for you!  We love you so much and we are so incredibly thankful that God gave you to us.

Let's take a moment and check out the serious hair growth that has happened in 18 months!! ;)

Eighteen Month Stats
Wearing:  Absolutely no changes here.  Bryleigh is still wearing some 9 month things, but mostly 12 months, and some 18 months.  She got LOTS of cute 18 months clothes that are still a little big, so we are ready for those to fit while the weather is still warm!

Eating:  Anything and everything.  If we give it to her, she will eat it!  Bryleigh LOVES grapes, strawberries, and bananas, and she also can't get enough vanilla wafers ("cookies") and graham crackers.  She doesn't eat quite as well as she used to, but she still does a great job!!

Sleeping:  I'm not sure where we went wrong, but for those of you that purchased VuDu dolls in honor of our epic sleeper, you can put them away. She forgot how to sleep...or the fact that she actually likes it.  It's bad enough that Brad has sworn off future children!  She wakes up pretty early these days, and she fights us EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT. at bedtime.  There have been long trips in the car, snuggles in the rocker, and test-runs of the "Cry It Out" method (which failed miserably).  She has been sick, so we aren't sure if that's causing an issue, and we also learned about a so called "18-month Sleep Regression"

Teeth:  Bryleigh is still holding steady at 16 teeth, but she is working on cutting some of her 2 year molars. (Lord, help us all!!)

Official Measurements:  Praising the Lord today for GREAT numbers!!  Bryleigh weighs 24 pounds 6 ounces, and she is 33 inches tall, which is 75% and 90% respectively.  Her head is 49.25 cm, which is still well off the charts.

Eighteen Month Highlights

Bryleigh is the best little helper! She is always up to run errands with us, and I'm pretty sure we clean the house "a lot faster" when she is helping out!! ;) (And how could I resist showing off that cute, growing ponytail!?)

Bryleigh loves hanging out behind the vacuum cleaner while it's running so that it blows her hair like crazy.

You know me, I like to celebrate EVERY.LITTLE.THING. with cute outfits, and Bryleigh had LOTS of "America" clothes, so we just wore them all week long!!

Outfits 1 and 2 ;)

We kicked off the 4th of July by heading out to the 50th Annual Arlington Parade, and we were so excited to have our friends from Moldova - Efim and Irina - with us.  They loved it, and Bryleigh was interested in EVERYTHING!! The bands were definitely her favorite, with the horses a close second.

Outfit 3...my fave! Love a good romper!

After the parade, we headed over to DeDe and Poppa B's for a cookout and some swimming.  Although Bryleigh is still anti-swimming (and now anti-baths), it's still a good chance to rock out her really cute swim suit!!  (Bryleigh the Bumble Bee)
Outfit 4 (and a really cute swimsuit!)  Not pictured is outfit 5 on Sunday. ;)

Bryleigh was SO happy to have some special guests stay with us this month!  The Orbu's are missionaries in their home country of Moldova, and they are in the states to meet with their current supporters as well as raise new support for their family as they serve God in Campus Crusade for Christ.  This was Irina's first time getting to meet Bryleigh...last time she was here, Bryleigh was just starting to grow in my tummy!  It was also my first time (and Brad's) to meet Efim.  Needless to say, the guys really hit it off, and Brad did NOT want to leave for the week!!

Bryleigh absolutely loved Efim and Irina!  She was always so sad when they left for their meetings.

July has NOT been a fun month where Bryleigh's health is concerned.  We still don't have any answers, but this little girl is a TROOPER!!  She is so tough and brave, and she doesn't let almost 20 days *and counting* of fever and diarrhea slow her down...there are way more details than that, but we'll spare you the fun stuff! ;)  (It has certainly slowed this momma WAAAAY down!!)  We are hoping for some new direction at her 18th month "Well" Visit.

3 doctors visits in 3 days = This baby is scarred for life...or at least the time being!

Daddy was SO glad to be home after hearing all the scary news about his baby girl, and Bryleigh was so glad her daddy was home for some good cuddles and lots of playtime.

This girl.  She is SO much fun!!  She makes me smile and laugh EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.  Even the bad ones.  I am so thankful for her life!  We are the luckiest, Bryleigh Renee!

11 Months and Santa Clause is Coming to Town!

To my favorite little cheerleader,

Thank you for bringing so much joy to our lives over the past 11 months.  I don't think I will ever get tired of watching you smile, and even more so the laugh that comes from that smile these days!  One of my favorite things that you are doing these days is clapping.  I know this isn't a new trick, but you officially understand what clapping is all about.  You ALWAYS clap when you hear people clapping on TV, and considering we watch a lot of sports with your daddy...you are clapping ALL. THE. TIME. :)

One of the things I have learned about you this month is your love language.  I'm well aware that 11 months might be a little young to narrow this down, but it's another #MiniHe moment.  I'm pretty sure your love language is words of affirmation, just like your daddy's! You are constantly looking to us to cheer you on and tell you that you are doing a good job (which you always are doing, of course), and you always make sure that we are following you along as you crawl.

Some of your other favorite things to do include: "show us your tongue" - and you rightly do, opening and closing the doors...most of the time closing me out, and waving hi and bye.  You are a very smart girl, and I can't wait to watch you learn more and more!

Eleventh Month Stats

Wearing: 9 and 12 month

Not quite in the 12 month pants yet...

Eating: No changes here! We're working on adding some big people food to her list, but it's just gonna take time! ;)  She LOVED her Hopkins County Stew.

"Mommy gave me her very last bite! She loves me!!"

Sleeping:  The month started with some pretty early mornings, but we are ending it with some later ones!  Since she's been sick, she's been sleeping until about 8:30, with one morning even being NINE:30!!

On rare occasions, she sleeps on her back!

Teeth: EIGHT!!! You guys. Last month she had four.  This month she has EIGHT! Yes...it was a rough month. (And I'm pretty sure she's working on a molar.)

If you look close, you can see those pearly whites on the top!

Unofficial Measurements:22.7 pounds, 27 inches tall, and that punkin head is 48 cm!  We'll get official measurements next month at her ONE YEAR well visit! How that's even possible is beyond me! ;) Can't wait to see how much she's grown and the percentiles she is in.  (Although we didn't go for a well visit, we did have TWO sick visits this month! A nasty sinus infection and "the crud" wiped us out there for a bit.)

Eleventh Month Highlights

Daddy's take on the past month: "She played. A lot. - End of blog" :) He couldn't be more right! This girl plays hard and non-stop.  She is determined beyond anything I've ever seen, she is always on the go, and she doesn't stop until she is where she wants to be!  Oh, and he added, "And she was a zombie.  And a lizard. Oh. And a bear." - That she was! :)

THANKSGIVING
We had so much fun celebrating Bryleigh girl's first Thanksgiving!  We headed to Sulphur Springs to start the week for time with my parents and Alan's crew, and got to spend some time with my dad's parents while we were there.

Mom, Dad, and I ran in the Turkey Trot 5k on Thursday morning while Bryleigh and her daddy got a little more sleep in and started getting ready for the day.  Once we finished up there, we all loaded up and headed to Fort Worth for Thanksgiving lunch with all of Mimi's family, and Grandmother got to come too! It was so good to see everyone!

4 Generations - Bryleigh's first Thanksgiving

On Saturday, Brad and I had all of his family over for round 2 of Thanksgiving lunch, and it was such a sweet time with family and friends - including some family friends from Moldova, Kate and Ghena.  Memories were certainly made!

Shopping for Thanksgiving!

CHRISTMASTIME FUN
We did wait to decorate and get in the Christmas spirit until Thanksgiving was officially over considering we had 16 in our house for a meal, but we were definitely ready to get our house all Holiday-ified as soon as the last dish was put away!

I was honored to host a Christmas Cookie Exchange for the girls in our small group, so that definitely kicked off the Christmas season for us!  The house was all decked out, and it smelled AMAZING with all the sweet goodness that the ladies brought!  (Thankfully we had some help eating the 5 dozen plus cookies and candies.)

I was so excited to take Bryleigh to meet SANTA CLAUSE! I was sad that it fell on a night while Brad was out of town for work, but when an "authentic" Santa comes to your favorite boutique store with TWO live reindeer on his motorcycle, you kind of HAVE to go!!  It went just as I expected it would.  I mean, hey, everyone needs (at least) one Santa meltdown picture...we went ahead and checked that off this year!

The holidays always mean one thing: holiday parties!  I was so excited that Brad was able to get back in town early enough to go to the Carlisle and Gallagher Christmas party this year.  We have so much to celebrate about his last year of work, and it's always great to see his friends and colleagues.  I'm so proud of him!  (And Bryleigh was SUPER excited to see her daddy on Saturday morning when she woke up and he was HOME!)

Bryleigh got in to the Christmas spirit and helped out as much as she could - including sending out our Christmas cards and wrapping presents! :)

Some of my favorite pics from the month!

This girl LOVES her daddy and she celebrates when he is HOME with us!!  (Top right is giving daddy kisses!)

Traveling HOME

We had our FINAL team meal with our home team, the Owens, and the Sanders at 9:00 and then it was time to finish packing, load the buses and head to the airport around 10:30. I think those final goodbyes to those two families were DEFINITELY the hardest.  Their hearts for the Lord and the people of Moldova are inspiring, and I definitely consider it a blessing to know them and to have had the opportunity to have served along side them.

Our flight from Chisnau to Munich was a 2-hour flight that left around 12:55…and I’m pretty sure I slept the majority of those 2 hours!

Our group was literally RUNNING through the airport (and SEVERAL security points) to make our 9-hour connecting flight from Germany to Chicago that was leaving at 3:50.

We were welcomed back to the States with CUSTOMS.  We each had to get our bags, go through customs and then RE-CHECK our bags.  The time spent in the Chicago airport was definitely interesting.  Because of some weird things with some of our boarding passes…(Did I mention mine said “Bryan Hammons”??) our 2.5-hour layover quickly turned in to about 15 minutes of downtime.

Our final flight left out of Chicago at 9:05…last stop, D.F.Dub!  We were all so anxious to get home to our families…and our beds. It was such a blessing to be greeted by my hubby at the airport, I had missed him more than I ever imagined.

I am SO very thankful, eternally thankful, that God allowed me to be a part of this trip, serve along side our amazing team, and fall in love with the people of Moldova.  God is truly at work there.

The wonderful hotel we stayed at before heading home

Boarding our plane for the flight to Germany

Reunited and it feels so good! :) LOVE him.

Back to Chisinau

11:00 pm here – 3:00 pm at home

This morning, we finished up our packing and waited with the girls for Richard to come by and pick us up.  There were definitely tears all around as we hugged them goodbye.  It’s such a strange feeling telling someone goodbye that you know you (probably) won’t see on this side of eternity.

Once we loaded up our luggage in Richard’s van, we headed to the church for breakfast and loading the bus to head back to Chisinau.  This was where we spent some time saying good bye to the interpreters we had lived and served with over the past week.  Irina I. gave me a pair of beautiful turquoise earrings that she handmade.  Irina G. had a Gaga-oose plaque with all of the villages.

Two of the hardest goodbyes also took place at the church.  Luba had gone early that morning to get breakfast ready for us, so that was the last time I would get to see her.  She had taken such good care of us over the past week.  She had opened her home and her heart with us, and she let us be a part of her family. She was a blessing.  I also had to say goodbye to Amy because she would be riding in with Erin and Courtney to meet up with her dad.  She is SUCH a beautiful person, inside and out.

We took a 3(ish) hour bus ride in to Belts (which is closer to Vulcanesti than Chisnau) and dropped off the translators along the way…saying hard goodbyes each time.

When we got to Belts, some went people went shopping in the city for the last time and some stayed back at our hotel - I took a shower and a much-needed nap!

We ended our evening with a beautiful dinner and the BEST meal I’d had all week. J We were able to spend the evening reflecting on our time from the past week until it was time to say our final goodbyes to the translators that had stayed with us.

Loved hearing them talk in English!
